Sorry No Posts Last Week

Sorry there is no post last week I had a very busy last week. Our well pump went out on Thursday before last and we cannot have anybody come out and fix it until that Friday and Saturday we spent the entire day working on our chicken coop and the same thing with last week after more than 40 hours of working my five Leghorn chickens are now enjoying their 16 x 8 x 7′ chicken run and coop that my husband and I spent hours and hours working on. Needless to say I did not get much reading done that week throw on top of all of the working on the chicken coop and the well pump going out I ended up with sun poisoning after being out in the sun so I was not a happy camper last week.

This week you can expect an interview and a free e-book giveaway. I am very excited about this it will be my first blog giveaway so please stay tuned I will let everyone know when and how the winners will be chosen please; spread the word. The more people we have check out this blog the more giveaways I will be able to do in the future.

Manic Monday will be coming up in a few hours so please stay tuned and other blog posts will be coming this week; it maybe a slow week but it will be an exciting week that’s for sure.

Happy reading

Saturday Sneek Peak

I have been working on my own novel between canning, cleaning, reading, wrangling a toddler, and just basically being a mommy & wife, I thought I would give a short synopsis of what I am working on and see what kind of feedback I get here; please remember, I am writing this by HAND, so it’s on legal pads right now – 2 are full and working on a 3rd at the moment, once I get 5 of them done, I’ll start to type them, unless I am on a role, then it’s going to be longer, lol. Some nights with my husband’s head on my lap I would write for an hour while he relaxed after being gone all week.

~~What would you do if you found a note in the back of your desk drawer?? Would you read it?? What if the person left you their number in case you wanted more information?? Can sexuality & sensuality co-exist??

Patrick finds a note from Rachel, 4 years AFTER she wrote it, in the desk he now occupies. After reading the note several times over a few weeks, he takes a chance and sends Rachel a text hoping that she might respond. They end up having coffee that same night and circumstances that originally drew Patrick to this ‘bonnie lass’ , bring emotions to the surface that Rachel wasn’t prepared for. Throw in Rachel’s protective father (a retired Marine), a stalker and Patrick’s own secrets. Passion isn’t a guarantee as Rachel has a secret she hasn’t told Patrick, one that might push him away…. ~~

Anyone interested so far????

I am still working on the plot and names [I have chosen all of them for specific reasons and a few I am playing with], so please bear with me. I hope I got at least a few people interested. Some of my personal views, political & otherwise, come out in this and Rachel takes on some of my strengths and weaknesses. The story takes place near Lake Tahoe, in both California & Nevada, some of the places are based on actual places I went with my husband on our honeymoon, the rest is from my own imagination.

Book Review ~ “Accidentally… a Prostitute” by Sophie Newsome

Title ~Accidentally… a Prostitute

Author ~ Sophie Newsome

Series~ The Billionaire Diaries

Book # ~1

Format ~ebook via Kindle

Rating ~3 ½ stars

Short Recap ~ Katheryn suddenly finds herself fired and heading out of her place of employment with her friend, Donna on her way to drink away her bad luck, when fates opens a door, Drake Parkin’s limo to be exact.  Katheryn might have been mistaken for a prostitute, but her serendipitous fortune might lead her to a new career

This is a great quick read, one of those novels you can read while in the bath and the door is locked or when you only have short break and want to read something hot and spicy. I gave it 3 ½ stars because it was a quick read and their wasn’t much in the way of a big build up, you knew what was going to happen, but the sex scene lived up to what I expected for two strangers when money (a LOT of money) was involved.

Book Review ~ “The 19th Wife” by David Ebershoff

 Title ~The 19th Wife

Author ~ David Ebershoff

Format ~Hardcover

Rating ~4.5 Stars

Recap {portions taken from goodreads.com} ~ “Faith, I tell them, is a mystery, elusive to many, and never easy to explain.”

In 1875, Ann Eliza Young has recently separated from her powerful husband, Brigham Young, prophet and leader of the Mormon Church. Expelled and an outcast, Ann Eliza embarks on a crusade to end polygamy in the United States. A rich account of a family’s polygamous history is revealed, including how a young woman became a plural wife.

A second, modern day story begins, murder involving a polygamist family, in Utah. Jordan Scott, a young man who was thrown out of his fundamentalist sect years earlier, must reenter the world that cast him out in order to discover the truth behind his father’s death.

As Ann Eliza’s narrative intertwines with that of Jordan’s search, readers are pulled deeper into the mysteries of love and faith.

Originally I saw the movie and it had me captivated, I went in search of the novel that the movie was based on and I what I found was a very surprising novel full or intrigue, murder, history and one that kept me motivated to keep reading late into the night and early morning hours. The book jumps back and forth between Eliza’s story and Jordan’s, which can be a bit disconcerting for some readers, however I didn’t mind the jumps as it kept the novel moving forward at a brisk pace.

I began to feel not only for what Eliza went through and her abandonment from her well known husband, Brigham Young, to Jordan as he tries to unravel the mystery of who murdered his father and clear his mother’s name.

Not having grown up in a Mormon or Fundamentalist Household, I received a theology lesson as well as a great novel. The reader learns about the Mormon faith and some of it’s early years with Brigham Young and Joseph Smith; I learned why the Mormon church split into two different sects; the history side of me enjoyed this novel as much as the side that enjoys a great mystery.

This novel is one I have recommended to others who were looking for something that is not what I would consider your ‘everyday mystery’ the layers of “The 19th Wife” were deep and made me look at what I thought I knew about the LDS & the FLDS churches.

Book Review ~ “Offbeat Love Stories and More” by Jennifer Lafferty

**Disclaimer** I received a copy of this novel in return for my review.
This collection of short stories was perfect for when I didn’t have much time, like being stuck behind a train or while waiting to pick to my son from school. Jennifer kept me wanting to read more after each one. This collection of romantic, comedy, lighthearted stories is sure to delight readers.
When you need a good laugh or still want to incorporate some romance into your day, pick up this novel and read a story to put a smile back on your face and get you going again, one of my favorites was ‘Perwinkle 26’. It makes reading all those tabloid stories seem less believable, lol. I was able to read this one at a long light, just don’t tell anyone.
Jennifer’s take on ‘love’ is refreshing and had me laughing out loud as made my way through the novellas. This was the first novel or any sort I have read by Jennifer and it won’t be the last.
