Holiday Questions ~ J. S. Marlo

1. Favorite Holiday Song & Movie
My favorite song is Winter Wonderland. The lyrics and the melody transport me in the forest on a snowy winter day.

My favorite movie is A Christmas Carol. There are lots of versions. If I had to choose one, I’d pick the one made in 1999 casting Patrick Stewart, but I love all of them including the animated ones with Mickey Mouse and The Muppets.

2. Favorite Holiday Family Tradition
My favorite tradition is the one my hubby and I started after our first child was born. Daughter was six month old on her first Christmas. On that Christmas Eve after supper, we put her in a snowsuit, wrapped her in a blanket, and took her for a sleigh ride around the neighborhood. There was lots of snow and almost every house was decorated with lights. We thought Daughter would fall asleep since it was her bedtime, but to our surprise and amazement, she just stared in wonders at all the bright colorful lights the entire ride.

That special evening walk on Christmas Eve has become a family tradition, and it doesn’t matter the kids are all grown up, they still enjoy looking at the Christmas lights around the neighborhood.

3. Favorite Holiday Food? Who makes it BEST?

Chocolate Yule Log made from scratch. I love making it with my daughters. Just yummy!!!

4. Which of Santa’s reindeers describes you?
I found a quiz “Which of Santa’s Reindeer are you?” at
And here’s a description of each reindeer and why each one is naughty and nice.

Sweet and shy, you tend to be happiest when you’re making someone else happy.
Why You’re Naughty: You sometimes stick that nose where it doesn’t belong.
Why You’re Nice: Christmas would be a sad affair without you!

Carefree and fun, you always find reasons to do a happy dance.
Why You’re Naughty: That dark stint you had as Santa’s private dancer.
Why You’re Nice: You’re friendly. Very friendly.

Sexy and sultry, you’re the one all the other reindeer dream about.
Why You’re Naughty: That fur pulling spat you got into with Dancer over Santa.
Why You’re Nice: Because even when you’re nice, you’re still delightfully naughty!

Always in good spirits, you’re the reindeer who loves to party down with Santa.
Why You’re Naughty: You’re always blitzed on Christmas Eve, while flying!
Why You’re Nice: You mix up a mean eggnog martini.

You’re an independent minded reindeer who never plays by the rules.
Why You’re Naughty: That little coup you tried to stage against Santa last year.
Why You’re Nice: You secretly give naughty children presents.

You are the perfect reindeer, with perfect hooves and perfect flying form.
Why You’re Naughty: Because you’re Santa’s pet, and you won’t let anyone show you up.
Why You’re Nice: You have the softest fur and the sweetest carrot breath.

The most lovable and sweet reindeer, you’re also a total dork!
Why You’re Naughty: You keep (accidentally) tripping the other reindeer while flying.
Why You’re Nice: You’re always smiling, even if you’ve fallen flat on your horns.

A total romantic, you’re always crushing on a new reindeer.
Why You’re Naughty: You’ve caused so much drama, all the reindeers aren’t speaking to each other.
Why You’re Nice: You have a knack for playing matchmaker. You even hooked Rudolph up!

A total daredevil, you’re the reindeer with an edge!
Why You’re Naughty: You almost gave Santa a heart attack when you took him sky diving.
Why You’re Nice: You always make sure the sleigh is going warp speed.

According to the quiz, I’m Prancer (Hmmm…)
According to my friends, I’m Dancer
And in my dreams, I’m Comet!

5. Do you decorate your home or office for the holidays? Religious or Secular? A mix of both?
My office is in my home. Outside, there are Christmas lights around the roof, and inside there’s an artificial Christmas tree with a nativity scene, and baby trees in all bedrooms and lots of decorations, both religious and secular.

6. Favorite Holiday Book(s)/reading
A few years ago, a dear friend who happens to be a librarian suggested Silver Bells by Luanne Rice, and this is how she introduced the story to me:

“On a quaint, snowy Chelsea street, librarian Catherine Tierney and a widowed Christmas tree seller from Nova Scotia will rediscover the magic of the season where they least expect it: in a chance encounter that leads to a holiday surprise of love and hope powerful enough to last a lifetime.”

Needless to say, it is an amazing story! Come to think of it, I may just re-read it this holiday.

7. This or That ~ Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog? Turkey or Ham? Religious or Secular? Santa or Frosty? Hot Toddy or Hot Cider?

Hot Chocolate. Turkey. Religious. Santa. But no Hot Toddy or Cider for me.
8. What is your favorite part of the holiday season? Least Favorite Part?

Spending time with family and friends is the highlight of my holiday season, and my least favorite part is when I have to say goodbye.

9. Let it Snow or Holiday in the Sun?

Definitely, LET IT SNOW! I’m a Canadian girl!
10. Favorite Childhood Holiday Memory?

Growing up, we used to have a huge Christmas Eve party with a big bunch of relatives, and it would last until dawn. My mother would prepare a full meal for the middle of the night, and the memory I relish the most is helping her bake and cook for the feast.

11. Stay up late and Wait for Santa or Bed Early?

Stay up late, have a party, go to bed, then unwrap presents in the morning.

12. What is your Holiday wish??

I’m having surgery in early December. My wish is to be healthy enough to spend quality time with my family and friends.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!
